ANIPOLO CITY — Amid the back-to-back onslaught of Typhoons Dante and Emong, intensified by the southwest monsoon, Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Santos assured the faithful of the Church’s solidarity with those affected by the calamities.
“With deep sorrow yet unwavering faith, we unite our hearts in prayer for all our brothers and sisters who have suffered in these recent calamities,” Bishop Santos said in an interview with Radyo Veritas. He emphasized that trials should not lead people to isolation, but rather inspire deeper compassion and unity.
The bishop called on Filipinos to be beacons of hope for those overwhelmed by the storms, underlining the power of collective prayer in seeking protection from natural disasters. “We must never lose sight of our shared humanity and the strength we draw from one another,” he added.
Beyond material preparation, Bishop Santos stressed the importance of spiritual readiness, especially during disasters. “Let our readiness be grounded in faith, solidarity, and love for our neighbor,” he said, reminding the faithful that safety is a communal responsibility.
Encouraging action rooted in Christian charity, Bishop Santos urged everyone to imitate Christ by helping those in need—offering shelter, comfort, and essential support to the most affected. “The Church stands beside you, not only in word but in action,” he affirmed, highlighting ongoing relief work through diocesan social action centers.
The prelate also invited the faithful to seek the intercession of the Miraculous Virgin of Antipolo for protection. “May our Blessed Mother, whose mantle covers every Filipino with care, intercede for us all,” he prayed.
Earlier, the Catholic Church mobilized dioceses nationwide in response to the widespread flooding caused by Typhoon Crising, which was quickly followed by Dante and Emong.
