TANAY, RIZAL – Simbang Gabi and Misa de Gallo officially began at San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish in Tanay, Rizal, on December 15, 2024, with the opening Mass held at 8:00 PM.
The Mass marks the start of the nine-day tradition leading up to Christmas Eve.
Simbang Gabi is a Catholic tradition observed by Filipino communities as a spiritual preparation for Christmas.
It consists of nine Masses, usually held at dawn, but in the case of San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish, the Mass is celebrated in the evening.
The Misa de Gallo, one of the oldest traditions in the country, commemorates the anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ.
At San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish, there will be assigned offerors each day to lead the Mass during the Novena.
These individuals will guide the faithful in the daily observance of the Mass throughout the nine days.
Simbang Gabi is also a time for the community to come together and reflect on the meaning of Christmas.
The tradition provides an opportunity for prayer and devotion in preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth.
