TANAY, RIZAL– San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish in Tanay, Rizal, has been officially designated as one of the Pilgrim Churches for the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025, starting with the new calendar year of the Catholic Church.
This announcement comes from the Vatican and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), which highlighted the significance of these sacred sites as places of pilgrimage and spiritual renewal for the faithful.
Cardinal-elect Pablo Virgilio David, president of the CBCP, emphasized that these churches will provide opportunities for deeper reflection, conversion, and an encounter with God’s infinite mercy.
The Jubilee Year, also known as the Jubilee of Hope, will officially commence on December 24, 2024, when Pope Francis opens the “Holy Door” in St. Peter’s Basilica and presides over a Mass.
During this holy year, the faithful will have the chance to receive a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.
Pope Francis has encouraged pilgrimages not only to Rome but also to local churches and shrines, highlighting the blessings that come from such spiritual journeys.
For those unable to travel to Rome, bishops worldwide have designated their cathedrals and shrines as special pilgrimage sites, providing an avenue for reconciliation and revitalization of faith.
The inclusion of San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish among the Pilgrim Churches is part of a broader list within the Diocese of Antipolo, which includes notable sites such as the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Antipolo Cathedral) and the Diocesan Shrine-Parish of Our Lady of Aranzazu in San Mateo.
