TANAY, RIZAL – The San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish in Tanay, Rizal observed Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season with a series of Masses and traditions to help the faithful prepare for a season of penance, reflection, and renewal.

In observance of Universal Fasting and Abstinence, the church held Masses throughout the day to accommodate the schedules of its parishioners.

Masses were held at 6:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 5:30 PM, and 7:00 PM, offering flexible times for those who work during the day or have different work schedules.

These Masses focused on repentance, humility, and spiritual preparation for the weeks of Lent.

On March 2, three days before Ash Wednesday, the church also hosted a special event called “Silab-Sala,” which involved the burning of old “palaspas” (palm fronds).

Held at 7:30 PM, this local tradition symbolizes the cleansing of past blessings and prepares the faithful for the spiritual journey ahead.

Parishioners gathered to participate in this meaningful rite, reflecting on the significance of Ash Wednesday and Lent.

As part of the Church’s call for fasting and abstinence, the parish encouraged everyone to embrace the true spirit of Lent, focusing on penance, prayer, and almsgiving in preparation for Easter.

The Ash Wednesday services at San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish were well-attended, with many parishioners showing deep commitment to their faith and the spiritual practices of the season.

San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish continues to serve as a vital center for worship, prayer, and reflection for the people of Tanay, helping them embark on the Lenten journey with a renewed spirit of faith and devotion.
