TANAY, RIZAL, PHILIPPINES – San Ildefonso Parish Church marked a dual celebration today as parishioners gathered for a special Thanksgiving mass in honor of Independence Day and to commemorate the first anniversary of Rev. Fr. Ferdinand C. Delatado as the parish priest.
The mass, which was held at six o’clock in the morning, was officiated by Rev. Fr. Ferdinand C. Delatado or Fr. Ferdie himself.
Parishioners were surprised to learn that the occasion not only honored the country’s Independence Day but also highlighted Fr. Delatado’s dedicated service over the past year.
During the celebration, parishioners led by the Parish Pastoral Council extended warm greetings to Fr. Delatado, acknowledging his profound impact on the community during his first year.
The atmosphere became even more festive when Fr. Delatado was invited to blow out the candle on an anniversary cake, accompanied by Tanay Municipal Mayor Rafael A. Tanjuatco and Vice-Mayor Rex Manuel A. Tanjuatco. Also in attendance were Fiesta 2025 Hermano and Hermana Mayor Dr. Walter and Mrs. Annabelle Brown, adding to the surprise and joy of the event.
Fr. Delatado’s achievements during his tenure were lauded, particularly his efforts in the Preservation, Conservation & Restoration of the church, declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2001.
Notably, he spearheaded the Conservation Management Plan within his first year, setting a comprehensive framework for the church’s preservation over the next 26 years.
His dedication extended beyond architectural conservation, as he initiated monthly devotions to San Ildefonso de Toledo across Barangays, fostering community spirituality.
Additionally, he established the Historical and Cultural Heritage Commission to safeguard and promote the church’s rich historical and cultural significance.
In recognition of Fr. Delatado’s contributions, the Parish Pastoral Council organized a surprise breakfast attended by 150 parishioners and supported by generous donations from various church organizations.
