Pope Francis has appointed Most. Rev. Nolly Buco, D.D. as the new bishop of the Diocese of Catarman on Friday.

Bishop Buco, 60, currently serves as the auxiliary bishop of Antipolo and the apostolic administrator of Catarman.

He stepped into this role in December 2023 after Bishop Emmanuel Trance resigned due to health concerns.

Buco will be the third bishop of Catarman since it became a diocese nearly 50 years ago.

The announcement of his appointment was made in the Vatican at noon, which was 6 p.m. in the Philippines.

Notably, this day also marks the 31st anniversary of his ordination as a priest.

Buco was ordained for the Antipolo diocese in 1993 and has held various positions, including judicial vicar.

In September 2018, he was consecrated as the auxiliary bishop of Antipolo.

Aside from these, he leads the National Tribunal of Appeals in the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), handling marriage nullity cases.
