Pilgrim Relic of St. Titus Brandsma visits San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish

TANAY, RIZAL – The faithful gathered in reverence as the relic of St. Titus Brandsma, a Dutch Carmelite priest and professor of philosophy, arrived at San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish in Tanay, Rizal on November 10.
The visit is part of the saint’s pilgrimage tour, giving the local community an opportunity to honor and seek the intercession of this modern martyr.
The day began at 8:45 a.m. with the arrival of the relic, followed by a Holy Mass at 9:00 a.m. Parishioners were invited to participate in a public veneration at 10:00 a.m., allowing them to come forward and pay their respects.
The event also included a parish-wide formation at 4:30 p.m., themed “Accompanying the Pilgrims of Hope Towards the 2025 Jubilee Year,” which sought to inspire and strengthen the faith of the attendees as they prepare for the upcoming Jubilee celebrations.
After a second veneration session at 5:30 p.m., another Holy Mass was celebrated at 6:30 p.m., leading up to the farewell rites and departure of the relic at 8:00 p.m.
About St. Titus Brandsma
St. Titus Brandsma was born in the Netherlands in 1881 and became a Carmelite priest and professor. Known for his dedication to education and the Catholic faith, he openly opposed Nazi ideology during World War II, courageously speaking out against the oppressive regime.
His resistance led to his arrest and eventual martyrdom in Dachau concentration camp in 1942. Pope Francis canonized him as a saint in 2022, recognizing his steadfast faith and unwavering commitment to truth and justice.
St. Titus Brandsma’s life serves as a powerful reminder of courage in the face of persecution, and his relic’s visit to San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish allows the faithful to draw closer to his example.
The pilgrimage not only honors his memory but also encourages believers to deepen their faith as they continue their journey toward the 2025 Jubilee Year.
