TANAY, RIZAL On April 13, 2025, the faithful of San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish came together for the Palm Sunday celebration, which solemnly marked the beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred time in the Christian calendar.

This year’s observance featured a special procession and community participation, making the commemoration more reflective and communal.

The celebration began early in the morning at the Barangay Hall of Tabing-Ilog, where parishioners gathered to reenact the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

The short procession toward the church symbolized the crowd that welcomed Christ with joy, laying down cloaks and palm branches in His path. In Tanay, this tradition continues to remind the faithful of Jesus’ humble kingship and His journey toward His Passion.

Church workers, youth members, parish volunteers, and children dressed as little angels and apostles took part in the walk. The vibrant participation reflected the unity of the parish in recalling the biblical scene.

Along the route, a decorative carpet was laid down leading to the church doors, serving as a symbol of honor, just as people in Jerusalem laid garments before Christ.

Once the procession reached the church, Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Delatado, parish priest, led the blessing of palm branches, which were held high by the faithful.

The blessed palms, a traditional symbol of peace and victory, were distributed not only to those at the Mass but also to representatives from different barangays in Tanay, extending the celebration to the wider community.

In his homily, Fr. Delatado reminded the faithful that Palm Sunday invites all Christians to walk with Jesus—not only in moments of triumph but especially in the coming days of suffering and sacrifice.

The Palm Sunday celebration sets the tone for the rest of the Holy Week activities, which will include traditional liturgies, reflections, and processions that recall the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of the Lord.
