TANAY, RIZAL – A significant milestone has been achieved by the San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish in Tanay, Rizal, as the Roman Catholic Bishop of Antipolo, Most Reverend Ruperto Cruz Santos, D.D., officially declared La Purisima Concepcion as the secondary patroness of the parish and the municipality of Tanay.
In a declaration signed on January 20, 2025, Bishop Santos confirmed the appointment following a petition from the parishioners of San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish, led by their parish priest, Rev. Fr. Ferdinand C. Delatado.
The decision, announced on the feast day of the miracle of La Purisima on January 24, was made in recognition of La Purisima Concepcion’s powerful intercession and her deep connection with the local community.
For many years, Our Lady of Guadalupe had held the title of secondary patroness of the parish.
However, this new declaration traces back to the roots of the church, where it was revealed that La Purisima Concepcion has always been a prominent figure in the history of the parish.
Historical records show that she had long been revered by the early community members of San Ildefonso de Toledo, and it is fitting that her powerful presence is now officially acknowledged in this role.
For years, there were differing opinions within the community regarding the true secondary patroness of the parish.
While some upheld the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, others believed that La Purisima Concepcion had always held a more integral role in the parish’s history.
This long-standing discussion has now been settled with the official confirmation of La Purisima Concepcion’s title as the secondary patroness, solidifying her place in the legacy of Tanay’s religious tradition.
The declaration highlights that La Purisima Concepcion’s new role as the secondary patroness will come with all the canonical and liturgical privileges granted to such titles, ensuring the continued spiritual support for the people of Tanay.
This decision marks a return to the historical legacy of devotion to La Purisima Concepcion, a figure of immense spiritual significance to the people of Tanay for generations.
The declaration was officially made at the Chancery Office, Regina Pacis Center, Daang Bakal Road, Antipolo City. Rev. Fr. Alejandro M. Pestaño, DMD, Chancellor of the Diocese of Antipolo, attested to the signing of the document.
This historical move is expected to deepen the faith and devotion of the people of Tanay, fostering a stronger bond with their patroness.
The decalaration also serves as a reminder of the deep spiritual connection that the people of Tanay have with their heritage, and the enduring power of La Purisima Concepcion’s intercession.
